The business
YPF turns underground resources into products for transport, households and industry. Extraction requires wells and infrastructure; refineries convert crude into fuels and other derivatives. Marketing connects output with distributors and consumers. Transfers between group businesses should be distinguished from external sales.
An integrated energy company exploring and producing hydrocarbons, refining crude oil and marketing fuels and petrochemicals.
YPF operates across the hydrocarbon chain: producing oil and gas, processing raw materials and marketing products. This integration connects businesses with different economics: crude prices, refining costs and fuel demand affect each stage differently.
YPF turns underground resources into products for transport, households and industry. Extraction requires wells and infrastructure; refineries convert crude into fuels and other derivatives. Marketing connects output with distributors and consumers. Transfers between group businesses should be distinguished from external sales.
What shapes business performance
Production, realised prices and extraction costs explain upstream performance; utilisation and refining margins explain processing. Sustaining output requires investment, so EBITDA and free cash flow differ. Transport capacity, fuel demand, exchange rates and project schedules also matter.
YPF explores and develops fields to extract oil and gas at the start of its energy chain. Crude can supply refining and gas other energy uses; reserves, well investment and productivity shape the continuity of production.
Who it serves
Refineries, processors and buyers of oil and gas.
How the business works
Exploration identifies resources; development turns them into production. Hydrocarbon sales must support operating costs and investment in wells and infrastructure.
YPF’s refineries turn crude into fuels supplied to transport, farming and industry through its commercial network. This stage connects oil production with consumers; product mix, plant availability and fuel demand influence the business.
Who it serves
Industries and distributors using fuels, chemicals or processed inputs.
How the business works
Industrial processing converts raw material into marketable products. Margins depend on selling prices relative to feedstock, energy and processing costs.
YPF Química produces and markets petrochemical inputs linked to the company’s refining and gas-processing operations. Buyers use these materials in other industrial chains, creating value by converting hydrocarbons into products with defined chemical specifications.
YPF participates in electricity through YPF Luz, with thermal and renewable generation. This makes the group an electricity supplier as well, connecting investment in power plants with supply to the grid and industrial users.
Who it serves
The electricity system and energy buyers, including large users under contracts.
How the business works
Power plants convert an energy source into electricity. Depending on each asset’s framework, remuneration may reflect delivered energy, available capacity and contract terms.
The business in practice
Selected products, companies and assets from corporate publications.
From refinery to customer
La Plata, Luján de Cuyo and Plaza Huincul form the refining base. Fuel reaches service stations and business customers; YPF AGRO connects this offering with farming needs.
Ensenada links petrochemicals with refinery feedstocks. Plaza Huincul converts natural gas into methanol; Luján de Cuyo produces propylene for plastics. Other industries turn these inputs into finished products.
YPF Agro supplies farmers with fuels and lubricants through a distribution and advisory network. It also markets seeds, crop nutrition and crop protection. The commercial role extends beyond fuel to supplies used throughout the farming cycle; it does not imply that YPF manufactures every input.
The aviation range separates Jet A1 for turbines from Avgas for piston engines. YPF also sells aviation lubricants and offers sampling, analysis and storage advice. The business combines fuel supply with services tailored to aircraft use; it does not mean operating airlines.
YPF distinguishes finding reserves, preparing development and extraction, with a focus on unconventional resources. Each stage answers a different question: what exists, how to produce it and how to sustain output. Investment precedes sales; finding hydrocarbons alone does not establish that a project can cover its costs and transport.

YPF Luz: electricity for business customers
YPF Luz offers thermal and renewable generation through term contracts. Industrial customers use electricity in production; supply combines generating assets with commercial commitments. This is a distinct activity within YPF’s energy relationships: electricity sales require management of availability and delivery alongside oil and gas development.
